For over 20 years I've been collecting stories, photographs, interviews, out of print books and researching various aspects of the human history of Algonquin Park in Ontario Canada. In other words, capturing voices from the past. In the fall of 2020, I launched my podcast 'Algonquin Defining Moments' to both complement my published books but also to continue my mission of sharing stories, recollections, traditions, landmarks and other fun Algonquin Park human heritage curiosities. In this way that those who share my passion for everything Algonquin Park can listen to snippets of the park and its people while commuting, walking, cooking, working around the house or even just meditating on the back deck. Enjoy! Gaye Clemson
For over 20 years I have been collecting stories, recollections, maps, photographs and other types of artifacts from fellow Algonquin Park residents and others in an effort to capture the voices and history of this vibrant community of people who have a passion for Algonquin Park in Ontario, Canada. This journey began in 1996 when I first set out in my green chestnut canoe, with my twin boys to get reacquainted with some nearby neighbors and record their family history on Canoe Lake. After that first venture I was hooked and my research efforts took on a life of their own. Over the next five years I spent many summer hours visiting residents from across the depth and breadth of the park. As my collection of stories, traditions and histories grew, I realized that the insights that I was gaining into the human heritage of Algonquin might also be of interest to a wider audience. I started by publishing the story of Gertrude Baskerville's 35 years of living alone on South Tea Lake in 2000 and the rest is now history. Later came a web site www.algonquinparkheritage.com and now I'm experimenting with Podcasts both audio and video with the hope of capturing the interests of a new generation of Algonquin Park lovers and supporters. Enjoy!!!
